As well as our finished maps, we have a frame only option for customers who wish to frame their own map. They can be supplied with or without a mount and are available in the same options as our finished maps.
We offer a range of frame options which complement most homes, from a stunning Oak option to a modern 'chunky' frame available in a range of colours from black through to taupe. View our frames page or quick view
Please Note – Whilst our framed maps are mounted onto a board prior to framing, our map frames are not supplied with a board for cold mounting the map, as this process requires professional equipment.
The mounts can be cut to show the latitude and longitude data, or for close framing where the mount just covers the edge of the map. With the close framed version, the key would need to be removed.
They are supplied complete with float glass, mount, backing board and hangers of your choice. The backing board is easily removed by releasing the clips, the map is then positioned on the mount and the clips tightened to secure the frame elements. They do not include a board for cold mounting the map. Full instructions will be supplied.
Maps with mounts range from 980mm x 980mm to 1060mm x 1060mm, for the mount + data and 950mm x 950mm to 1030mm x 1030mm for the close framed version. Both of these are dependent on your frame choice.
Our most popular style of mount is the version that shows the data.

Cockling Or Waving
This is a very good example of 'cockling' of a print. This was brought to me for refurbishment, the frame and backing was intact but the map had to be replaced.
This is caused by fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The paper tries to expand and contract but where it is restricted it can't move, so the result is the paper cockles. The Ordnance Survey maps are printed on a fairly thin paper base, the thinner the paper, the more prone the paper is to cockling. This is an irreversible problem.
We have always cold mounted our maps before framing to prevent this problem occurring, I was pleased when they brought this in as it showed what would happen otherwise!
With frame only purchases – with or without a mount, we advise the customer on how to minimise this problem happening.

The backing board is easily removed by releasing the clips, the map should then be positioned in the frame and allowed to flatten out. Once this has been achieved, the clips are tightened to secure the frame elements. The hangers and cord or mirror plates, can then be attached to the frame.

Currently we only supply Oak in this section. Natural woods are lovely to look at when you get a beautifully grained piece of wood, but in reality the lengths can vary greatly in colour and grain. We use two 10ft lengths for the frames and try to match these variations as much as possible, a 10ft length can vary from end to end.
We hope to add other woods which we find to be consistent in their quality.

The point of using dummy text for your paragraph is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters. making it look like readable English.
The Ordnance Survey titles input has a limited number of characters per line, which is quite restrictive. Where customers would like to have more, we print our own text with a black border and add this to the key section of the map. We can therefore adjust the size of the text to accommodate the text required. The titles are only available on maps without mounts and with the key.
The sample opposite should read 'CLAN' , this shows the current maximum character input for each line permitted on the Ordnance Survey site. There are 3 main titles -15 upper case only per line including spaces + 2 sub-titles which can be upper & lower case of approximately 38 characters inc. spaces.
If you would like a photograph on the key section of the map, we would require a 6" x 4" or 5" x 4" print to be sent to us. Please note, the height is not a problem, but we are restricted by the width of the key – approx. 4"/10cm and would need to trim accordingly.
Our framed maps and map frames are for collection, local delivery – for which we make a variable charge depending on distance or dispatch via Parcelforce. Our dispatch timescale is 10 – 12 working days.
Due to the recent increases in Parcelforce costs and the packaging materials we use, we have had to increase our basic charge for delivery. This increase will affect our business with an expected drop in sales, but we can no longer absorb these additional costs.
We deliver the maps via the Parcelforce 48 Large service where this is available. This service unfortunately does not cover the whole of the UK, we are therefore unable to deliver to certain postcodes, please see 'Postcode Exceptions' below.
Postage and packaging is charged at £45 for mainland UK, this covers our Parcelforce cost + the packaging required to send the frame safely. Delivery to the Highlands and Islands will incur a surcharge, please contact us for a price for these areas.
Customers who place orders for delivery to areas subject to a surcharge, will be notified of any additional payment required and should they decide to cancel their order, their original payment will be refunded.
The Parcelforce 48 Large service is not available to all locations. For more information regarding delivery click here
